Double standard

When a man gives his opinion, he's a man. When a woman gives her opinion, she's a bitch.

— Bette Davis

Double standard refers to a situation in which two or more issues are (for all intents and purposes) identical but are nonetheless treated differently.

Double standards are usually part of the rationalisation behind many oppressive ideas and acts. As the context in which one social group has privilege, is the same context in which another social group is ignored or oppressed.
